Day 3 – August 24

Ballygally to Glenarm Hike

Stay: Ballygally Hotel

Join our experienced hiking guide and coach for a short transfer to the trailhead above Ballygally. From there, enjoy a stunning walk down into Glenarm, a delightful old fishing village with a castle still in use.

This peaceful trail offers a quiet escape from the busier sections of the Causeway Coastal Route, giving you the chance to soak in the scenery without crowds.

🥾 Trail Details:
Distance: 9 miles
Terrain: Undulating with a total of 300m elevation gain
Surface: Mostly grass, with some boggy sections and numerous stiles to climb — sturdy hiking boots are essential.

After your walk, return via private transfer to the Ballygally Hotel for a well-deserved rest.

Day 4 – August 25

Glenariff Forest Park & Salt House Hotel Stay

Stay: Salt House Hotel

Embark on an 8-mile hike through the breathtakingly beautiful Glenariff Forest Park—known as the ‘Queen of the Glens,’ one of the nine stunning glens of Antrim.

  • Scenic Vistas: Enjoy sweeping views over the glen and the Irish coast.
  • Waterfall Walk: Follow a Victorian walkway that allows for up-close access to a spectacular waterfall.
  • Trail Conditions: Mostly forest trails with some steep inclines—your efforts are well rewarded with remarkable scenery.

After your adventure, a private transfer takes you back to the Salt House Hotel to unwind and soak in the coastal views.

Day 5 – August 26

Fairhead & Murlough Bay Walk

Stay: Salt House Hotel

Enjoy a private transfer from the Salt House Hotel to Fairhead and Murlough Bay—one of the most beautiful yet lesser-visited spots along the Causeway Coastal Route. Despite its stunning scenery, its relative remoteness often means you’ll have this peaceful haven all to yourselves, even in peak summer.

On most days, you’ll enjoy clear views of nearby Scotland and Rathlin Island throughout the walk.

🥾 Trail Details:
Distance: 8 miles
Route Type: Figure-of-eight coastal path descending into Murlough Bay and looping back up to the Fairhead cliffs
Terrain: Gravel and tarmac paths with one steep climb and a fence to climb over

Please note that both this route and the Antrim Hills walk have no facilities, so plan accordingly.

Day 6 – August 27: Rathlin Island & Ballycastle

Stay: Salt House Hotel

Rathlin Island Adventure
Start your day with an early morning ferry from Ballycastle to Rathlin Island, Northern Ireland’s only permanently populated island, home to around 150 residents.

This gentle 6-mile walking day offers a relaxed pace with wonderful wildlife encounters.
Bird Watching: Visit one of the largest seabird breeding colonies in Western Europe—home to around 150,000 birds.
Seal Spotting: After a visit to the bird sanctuary, walk toward Rue Point where you may spot seals basking on the shore.

Return by ferry to Ballycastle and enjoy the lively atmosphere of this charming Irish town—perhaps even catching some traditional Irish music to round off the day.

Day 7 – August 28: Carrick-A-Rede to Giant’s Causeway

Stay: Bushmills Inn

This is the highlight of the entire trip — an epic 13-mile coastal hike that takes in some of Ireland’s most spectacular scenery. For those seeking a shorter route, you can skip 5 miles by bus and still visit the Giant’s Causeway, though this means missing some of the most scenic cliff views in Western Europe.

Trail Highlights:
– Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge:
Cross this iconic bridge for thrilling coastal views.
– Ballintoy Harbour: A picturesque stop along the route.
– White Park Bay: Stunning sandy beaches and limestone rock formations.
– Dunseverick Harbour & Castle Ruin: A historic gem along the path.
– Giant’s Causeway: Explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its legendary basalt columns.

🥾 Trail Details:
Distance: 13 miles (with a 5-mile bus option for a shorter walk)
Terrain: Mostly flat coastal path with a maximum elevation of 125m on undulating cliffs
Surface: Grass, gravel, beaches, stone steps, boggy patches, and a short limestone rock scramble near White Park Bay

End the day with a well-deserved rest at the Bushmills Inn, rich in character and comfort.

Day 8August 29: Portstewart to Bushmills

Stay: Bushmills Inn

Begin the day with a public bus transfer to Portstewart and start your hike with your guide at the promenade.

Continue your walk into the village of Bushmills to enjoy a memorable farewell dinner with your host and local guide. If time allows, raise a glass with a ‘wee dram’ at the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery, operating since 1608.
